Wanda Barzee killed nobody. She was convicted of kidnapping and of unlawful transportation of a minor, has no murder conviction of any kind, and is not a serial killer. The entry is flagged and is retained only because the roster carries it.
She was born in 1945. With Brian David Mitchell, to whom she was married, she held a fourteen-year-old girl captive in Utah for nine months from June 2002, during which the girl was repeatedly raped by Mitchell. The pair were found with her in Sandy, Utah on March 12, 2003 and she was recovered alive.
Barzee was initially found incompetent to stand trial and was medicated over her objection. She pleaded guilty in 2009 to kidnapping and to unlawful transportation of a minor, and was sentenced to fifteen years. She was released in September 2018, having been credited with time served in state custody. A calculation that was disputed publicly at the time by the victim and by prosecutors.
