Vladimir Anatolyevich Bratilov was born on July 2, 1975, in Lysva, an industrial town in what was then Perm Oblast in the Urals. The Russian press called him the Lysva Maniac.

Between March 1997 and June 1998 he attacked girls and women in the town, raping and robbing them and then killing them, by strangulation and beating. He was arrested on June 10, 1998. Russian reporting called him the Beast of Lysva.

In 1999 the Perm Regional Court found him guilty on every count against him and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The number of murders in the indictment, and in the verdict, was eight.

This entry previously carried his name as Bratislav, his year of birth as 1976, and his victim count as more than thirty, on the strength of regional press reporting. All three were wrong. The name is Bratilov, the year is 1975, and the count established by the court that convicted him is eight. The old spelling is kept as an alternative name so that searches for it still find this page.
