Groves was born in 1953 and lived in Denver.
Women, most of them working as prostitutes or using drugs, were strangled in the city from 1978. He was convicted on one count in 1982 and sentenced to twelve years.
He was paroled in 1987. Within months of his release women were being strangled in Denver again, and he was arrested on September 1, 1988. He received a life term in 1989 and, on a plea to a third count, twenty years in 1990.
He died in prison on October 31, 1996.
