The voices began entering the 23 year old nun’s mind in April…. In North Eastern Romania lies a Romanian Orthodox Monastery where ironically enough a murder took place by the very people that have sworn to uphold the teachings of the bible. Maricica Irina Cornici believes that she heard the devil talking to her, and was treated for schizophrenia, however that didn’t seem to solve the abnormal “Curse of the Devil” as she relapsed. Father Daniel Corogeanu, and his four nuns then stepped in and attempted their diagnosis- exorcism. For the exorcism process, her hands and feet were bound, and she was locked in a room as well as being denied food and drinks. Later, as she showed no signs of improvement they chained her to a cross, and gagged her with a towel. She survived this torture for 3 days, however on June 15th 2005 her candle finally went out, she died from asphyxiation and in great agony most likely from the torture she endured. Now here is the juicy part - apparently before she relapsed, according to a parishioner by the name of Dora, reported that Matricia(the victim) had gotten into an argument and insulted Father Daniel during a Sunday Mass. Now whether Father committed this sacrilegious crime out of a personal vendetta against Maricia or if he really did want to just try and cure her is unknown, but he and the four nuns involved were committed of murder, his last words “God has performed a miracle for her, finally Irina is delivered from evil."

Father Daniel Corogeanu and four nuns were convicted over her death in 2007. She had been treated for schizophrenia and had relapsed, and the exorcism was carried out instead of medical care rather than alongside it. The suggestion of a personal motive rests on one parishioner's account of an argument at Mass, and the article says plainly that it is unknown.
