Phumphuang was born in 1964. Between January and June 2005 he killed five women who worked in massage parlours: Warunee Pimpabutr, twenty-five; Pongphan Sapchai, thirty-four; Patcharee Amataniran, thirty-eight; Porntawan Pangkhabutr, thirty-seven; and Sompong Pimpornpirom, thirty-six. They were drowned or strangled, and their money and jewellery were taken. He engaged their services and then killed them, in several cases after an argument.
He was arrested on June 29, 2005 and sentenced to death on March 2, 2010, nearly five years later.
Thailand carries out executions rarely and by lethal injection since 2003; there were no executions at all between 2009 and 2018. Nothing accessible records what has happened to the sentence, and this is one to re-check before reprint.
