Ray Shawn Jackson was born in 1968 and lived in Kansas City, Missouri. He was twenty-two when he was arrested.
Seven women were strangled in the city between September 1989 and April 1990. He was charged with six of them. The police chief, Larry Joiner, said all six had been lured to the midtown districts where they were killed by the promise of getting crack cocaine. The Kansas City press called him the Gilham Park Strangler, after where the bodies were found.
On the night of Monday April 9, 1990 he attacked another woman and a passer-by interrupted it. She survived, and he was charged over that assault as well. He was arrested and charged on Friday April 13.
In 1991 he was sentenced to six consecutive terms of life imprisonment without parole. All six charges produced convictions, which is uncommon in this roster and worth stating.
The seventh strangling was never attributed to him in anything accessible here, and is not counted.
