This entry is a classification correction. Nasra Yussef Mohammed Al-Enezi killed a great many people in one act on one day. That is mass murder. She is not a serial killer, and appears here only because the roster imported her.
On August 15, 2009, in Al Jahra, Kuwait, her husband held a wedding celebration for his second marriage. Under Kuwaiti law he was entitled to take a second wife, and Al-Enezi, the first wife, had opposed it.
She poured petrol at the entrance of the women's tent, where the female guests and their children were gathered, and set it alight.
The tent was made of synthetic fabric and went up in seconds. The entrance was the only way out.
Fifty-seven people died, almost all of them women and children, and dozens more were burned. It was the worst peacetime disaster in Kuwait's history.
She was arrested at the scene, convicted, and sentenced to death on March 30, 2010. The sentence was later commuted to fifteen years.
The case produced a national argument in Kuwait about polygamy, about the safety standards of celebration tents, and about the position of first wives.
