Three women had vanished in Winnipeg between September 2011 and January 2012. On June 25, 2012, police announced that Shawn Cameron Lamb had been charged with murdering all three.

Lamb, 52, was charged with three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Tanya Nepinak, 31, Lorna Blacksmith, 18, and Carolyn Sinclair, 25. He had been in custody on a sexual-assault-related charge over the weekend, CTV News reported. "This is an important break in these cases," Police Chief Keith McCaskill said, adding that if there were more victims, "we want to find out and that's certainly a potential." About 24 investigators had worked on the case: 10 Winnipeg police officers and 14 RCMP members.

Nepinak went missing in September 2011, and police said they had been led to a third location but had not found her body; they believed she was dead. Sinclair, who was pregnant, disappeared just before Christmas 2011, and her body was found in March near a dumpster in a back lane off Notre Dame Avenue. Blacksmith went missing in January 2012, and a body found the previous week in a backyard on Simcoe Street was believed to be hers. Lamb, originally from Sarnia, Ontario, had a lengthy criminal record including theft, assault and fraud.

Indianz.com reported that Lorna Blacksmith's body was found near a dumpster, while CTV News said the remains believed to be hers were found in a backyard on Simcoe Street.
