Amelie Delagrange, a 22-year-old French student, was beaten to death on Twickenham Green in August 2004 after a night out. On March 2, 2006, the Crown Prosecution Service charged former nightclub bouncer Levi Bellfield with her murder.

Bellfield, 37, formerly of West Drayton in west London, was also charged with the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy, who was 18 when a car ran her over and then reversed back over her as she walked home in Isleworth in May 2004, and with the attempted murder of a woman in Longford in December 2003. He was further charged with trying to abduct a 17-year-old girl at a bus stop in Twickenham in October 2001. Delagrange had been out with friends at a wine bar on London Road and was found near the cricket pitch on the green. The next day, Bellfield, who had also worked as a wheel clamper, appeared at Bow Street Magistrates' Court, confirmed his name, address and age and clapped as he was remanded in custody. Delagrange's parents traveled to London for the hearing.

On May 25, 2006, Bellfield was also charged with the murder of Marsha McDonnell, a 19-year-old student attacked in Hampton in February 2003 after a night out at the cinema. On February 25, 2008, he was convicted of murdering McDonnell and Delagrange and of the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.
