Muhammad Yousaf lived in the Sialkot district of Punjab province in Pakistan.
Between June and September 2010 he killed thirteen women aged between roughly sixty-five and seventy-five in villages across the district. He entered their houses, in several cases in daylight when the rest of the household was at work, and killed them with bricks, stones and blunt weapons or strangled them. He took their gold jewellery, which in rural Punjab is a woman's principal asset and is worn rather than stored.
The concentration of thirteen deaths in one district in four months made the series obvious quickly, and the investigation was substantial by the standards of the province.
He was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to death on June 15, 2011. Pakistan's application of the death penalty has been intermittent since, and the outcome of the sentence is not established in accessible sources.
