Barbour was born in 1992. In November 2013 she and her husband of three weeks, Elytte Barbour, placed an advertisement offering companionship. Troy LaFerrara, forty-two, answered it. On November 11 he got into their car in Sunbury, in Northumberland County, and she stabbed him some twenty times while her husband held a cord around his neck. His body was left in an alley.
They were arrested in December 2013. Elytte Barbour told police the killing had been planned as something to do together after their wedding.
In February 2014, from the county prison, she gave an interview to a local newspaper in which she said she had killed at least twenty-two people in several states over six years, that she had been involved in a satanic group in Alaska from the age of thirteen, and that she could name the sites. The claim was carried worldwide.
It was then investigated and did not hold. The Northumberland County district attorney said publicly that no evidence supported the figure and that he did not believe it. Police in Alaska, Texas and North Carolina examined what she had said against their own unsolved cases and found nothing that matched. Both pleaded guilty to second degree murder in 2014 and were sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. She was twenty-two.
