In order to understand why it happened, you have to understand why it was done. Jeffery Dahmer was the perfect idealistic view of the all American serial killer. He had some of the most gruesome murders involving rape, cannibalism, and necrophilia. It has come to a realization that when you’re trying to look for the reasons why someone has done such prolific crimes as Mr.Dahmer has done; you have to go back to the beginning.
Jeffery Dahmer from the start had a thirst for blood; he would dismember all kinds of animals when he was a small child. After his parents got divorced it went into a downward spiral for him with a drinking problem as a teenager, where he became a loner amongst his peers.
As a teen he fantasized about killing and raping men. When he graduated high school his father and stepmother left him alone without food, or money, but left him with a broken refrigerator. Some psychologists believe that this was a major stepping stone into what he would become later. Dahmer was abandoned and left alone with a mental illness. Later on he will use this to justify why he committed the crimes.
His stepmother Shari Dahmer said, “He was a gentle person until he was drunk, then it would take four policemen to hold him down.”
Bath Township, Ohio is where he would commit his first murder, he was only 18. The victim was a young hitchhiker by the name of Steven Hicks; he invited him into his house where he would be killed by a bell bar. Afterwards Dahmer would smash his bones with a hammer because he “didn’t want him to leave”. He would not kill again for another 9 years.
After that he went to college where he didn’t do very well so he dropped out. In a short time after his stint in college his father would force him to join the military, where he became a medic. Dahmer only did two years of his six year enlistment, due to his heavy drinking. They gave him a plane ticket to where ever he wanted to go. That’s when he decided to go live with his grandmother; he would stay there for six years.
In the short time he had been there he discovered gay bars and his second victim Steven Toumi. It was almost 10 years after his first murder.
A year later in 1988, Dahmer would get arrested for molesting a 13 year old boy. Which in some irony the boys brother would later become Dahmer’s thirteenth victim. He served 10 months for this crime and had to register as a sex offender. Shortly before this his grandmother asked him to move out because she kept smelling foul odors coming from the basement where he stayed. Before he was sent to the work camp he had found an apartment on the west side of Milwaukee, where he would later on commit most of his most devious crimes.
After he was released from serving only 10 months of his year sentence, he was put on five years of probation. He checked in every month religiously but unfortunately his correction officer never came and checked his house like they were supposed to. A Wisconsin official later told the press the reason why they didn’t was because they were over booked and didn’t have enough man power.
Dahmer would later on claim the lives of 15 young men by the end of July 1991. He would later admit that he was killing one man every week; because he was looking for something he was fantasizing about, a complete complaint sexual partner.
To clear things up Dahmer was not a racist man, most of his victims were black because of the community that he lived in was a predominantly black community.
When he did go out looking for his next victim he would fraternize at gay bars. Where he could pick up males of the homosexual persuasion, he would lure them in by telling them that he was a photographer and he would like to take there pictures for free. Most of them would agree and that’s when he would take them back to his apartment. Dahmer would start off by drugging there drink so that they would be in a deep sleep, because then it would be easy for him just to strangle them or stab them to death. He would then have anal sex with the dead body. This was the point where the real fun would be again as he claimed in an interview during his trial. He would sometimes hack the body parts of with a chainsaw, freeze some part for eating later most of it was dumped into a vat of various chemicals. His most favorite thing to do was to drill a hole in the back of there heads and squirt with a syringe a little bit of acid into there brain to put them in a zombie like state. Dahmer would do this because he wanted their company, but also wanted them under his control.
In the early morning hours of May 30th, 1991 a disturbing 911 call came to the Milwaukee police. Two young women reported that they saw a naked half coherent Asian male running around naked and bleeding. The police came out shortly after the call was made. When the police came up to talk to Dahmer about what had happened, he just proclaimed that Sinthasomphone was his boyfriend and that they just got into an argument after being heavily intoxicated. The police just chocked it up to being a lover’s quarrel and returned him back to Dahmer. Later that night he killed and dismembered Sinthasomphone, keeping his head as a souvenir.
The police would claim to have smelt a foul smell coming from the apartment, but did not investigate. Those two police officers would be fired from the Milwaukee police department and widely criticized for there actions.
The days that would follow would be some of Dahmer’s last as a free man that is. He picked his final victim Tracy Edwards, Dahmer would bring him back to his apartment and handcuff him. There was a lot of struggle with him, Dahmer would later recount in court. Edwards fled his apartment after breaking loose and flagging down a patrol car and explaining them the horrors that he had witnessed in the apartment.
When the police entered the apartment they were in utter shock of the little shop of horrors that he had made for himself. The police found several bodies in a vat of acid, severed heads in the refrigerator, and the construction of an altar in his closet of human skulls and candles together. After that the flood gates of accusations busted wide open with everything from necrophilia to cannibalism which later he would admit to in a private interview. The most interesting thing the judge would proclaim is the act of trepanation that would make his victims into the infamous zombie state.
Dahmer was indicted on 17 charges of murder, but was later reduced to 15. He got life sentences on every one of them which would total up 957 years in prison. After sentencing he expressed how much remorse he felt for doing what he did. His stay in Columbia Correctional institute would be short lived he escaped one attempted murder, but came up short the second time around.
On November 28th ,1994 him and a fellow inmate Jessie Anderson would loose their lives by the hand of Christopher Scarver. He was beat to death with weight equipment, ironically like his first victim. This was the end of the horror that was the existence of a mentally ill psychopath.
