LaShuan Harris drowned her three sons in San Francisco Bay on October 19, 2005. This is one act on one day and it is flagged as a single incident, not a series.
She was born in 1982 and had a documented history of severe mental illness. She took the children to Pier 7 in San Francisco, undressed them, and dropped them one after another into the water. Trayshawn Harris was six, Taronta Greely Jr. was two, and Joshua Greely was sixteen months. Only Taronta's body was recovered. She told investigators she had heard voices telling her to send the children to heaven.
A jury convicted her of three counts of second-degree murder on January 16, 2007. The following day the judge found her not guilty by reason of insanity in effect, declaring her criminally insane, and ordered her committed to a state hospital for twenty-five years to life rather than to prison.
