Lashanda Armstrong drove her car into the Hudson River at Newburgh, New York on April 12, 2011 with her four children inside. Three of them and she died. This is a murder-suicide in one act, not a series, and it is flagged accordingly.
After a dispute with the father of her children she drove the minivan down a boat ramp into the river. Her eldest son, Lashaun, ten, got out of a window and swam to shore, and it was his account that established what had happened. Landen Pierre, five, Lance Pierre, two, and eleven-month-old Lainaina Pierre died with their mother.
The case produced a public dispute between the two families. Relatives of Armstrong were asked to leave the children's funeral service after a confrontation with the father's family. The roster carries the entry, and the classification records what it actually was.
