Foster was born in 1963 and lived in Lexington, Kentucky. She and Tina Hickey Powell had been drinking and using drugs on April 23, 1986 with a group of five people they knew: Trudy Harrell, Virginia Kearns, Theodore Sweet, Roger Keene and Carlos Kearns.
Over several hours that night the five were shot, stabbed, set alight and run over with a car, in different places around the city. All five died.
Both women were convicted. Foster was sentenced to death on April 26, 1987, and Powell to life. Foster's death sentence was set aside and she was resentenced in 1991 to life imprisonment without parole.

No settled motive emerged. Drugs, drink and a dispute over money were all in evidence, and the court's sentencing findings described the killings as prolonged and without purpose.
