Miller was born in 1945. He was convicted of murder in Illinois and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1978, following killings in 1976 and 1977 in which women were raped and strangled.
He was paroled in April 1993. Later that year he killed again, and he was convicted and sentenced to death in 1994.
On January 10, 2003 Governor George Ryan commuted all Illinois death sentences and his became life imprisonment without parole. While in prison he gave a confession to three further killings.
The range of five to nine reflects those admissions. None was charged, and as with the other prison confessions in this archive the entry treats them as statements rather than findings.
The release is the fact that matters here. A man serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of women was released on parole after fifteen years and killed another woman within months, and that sequence is documented and uncontested.
