James Dale Ritchie (November 4, 1976 - November 12, 2016) is held responsible for five shootings in Anchorage, Alaska, between 3 July and August 28, 2016: Brianna Foisy, 20, and Jason Netter Sr., 41, on a bike trail in July; Treyveonkindell Thompson, 21, in August; and Kevin S. Turner, 34, and Bryant De Husson, 25, later that month.
On November 12, 2016 he shot and wounded an Anchorage police officer in the downtown area and was killed in the exchange of fire that followed. Ballistics matched the .357 Colt Python revolver he was carrying to all five killings, and police announced the cases closed on that basis. The Alaskan press called him the Anchorage Serial Killer.
He was never charged, tried or convicted, and no motive was established. Anchorage police declined to say how they had determined when he came into possession of the revolver, or whether he had any prior connection to the victims. The attribution rests on the ballistics match alone.
