Griffin was born in 1971 and lived in Chicago, using drugs heavily. The Chicago press called him the Roseland killer, after the neighbourhood.
Between May and June 2000 he killed seven women on the west side of the city, strangling or beating them. All were using drugs and most were working as prostitutes. The killings were concentrated in a small area and in a very short period.
He was arrested on June 17, 2000 and was sentenced in November 2005 to a hundred years' imprisonment.
Chicago in that period had more than one man killing women in the same circumstances, and the reporting at the time noted that several suspects were charged with hunting drug-addicted women in the city within a few years of each other.
