Schumann was born on February 1, 1893 in Germany. Between 1911 and 1919 he shot six people, men and women, in the area of Falkenhagen Lake on the western edge of Berlin, and committed rapes and a series of robberies. He was known in the press as the Terror of Falkenhagen Lake.
He was arrested on August 20, 1919, tried, and sentenced to death on July 13, 1920. He was executed at Plotzensee prison on August 27, 1921, by beheading with an axe. The method used in Prussia at the time.
This entry matters for a second reason. The archive also carries an entry for a cabman named Schultz, said to have been arrested in Spandau in December 1920 on eleven counts and guillotined in 1921. Schultz's whole source base is one paragraph, and Schumann is the documented Berlin serial case of exactly those years and that area. The two accounts are not connected by any evidence and no conclusion should be drawn from the overlap, but anyone working on either entry should know the other exists.
