Kaprat was born in 1964 and lived in Hernando County, Florida. The Florida press called him the Granny Killer, after the ages of the women he killed.
In August and September 1993 he killed people in the county, beating them and setting fires, and a killing from 1991 was also attributed to him. He was arrested on October 8, 1993.
The victims named in the record are Sophia Garrity, eighty; Ruth Goldsmith, seventy; Lydia Ridell, seventy-nine; and Lorraine Dawe, eighty-seven. A man killed earlier is not named in it.
He was convicted and sentenced to death on February 28, 1995.
On April 19, 1995 he was killed on Florida's death row by two other condemned prisoners, Mario Lara and Rigoberto Sanchez-Velasco, who beat him to death in a common area. He had been under sentence of death for seven weeks.
Sanchez-Velasco was later executed, in 2002, having dropped his own appeals; the Kaprat killing formed part of the aggravation against him.
So none of the appeals in Kaprat's own case were ever heard, and the five deaths attributed to him were never reviewed. The entry rests on the conviction as it stood on the day he died.
