Daniel Lee Siebert was born in 1954 and worked as an art teacher and, at various points, as a male model and a bartender.
In 1979 he killed a man in California and was convicted of manslaughter. He was paroled in 1985.
Within a year he had killed again. In February 1986, in Talladega, Alabama, he murdered Sherri Weathers and her two young sons, Chad and Joey, both under five, and two other women, Linda Jarman and Sherri's neighbour. He also killed women in New Jersey and Nevada. Nine to twelve deaths are attributed to him across four states, several of the women having been in relationships with him.

He was arrested on September 4, 1986.
He was convicted in Alabama and sentenced to death. He spent twenty-two years on death row and developed pancreatic cancer, and his lawyers argued that his execution should not proceed because he was dying; the argument was refused and he died in prison on April 22, 2008, before the date could be set.
The parole in 1985 is the part of the case that was examined afterwards. He had killed once, served six years, and was released into a jurisdiction that knew nothing about him.
