Serviatti was born in 1880. Between 1928 and 1932 he killed women he travelled with on the railway line between Rome and La Spezia: Bice Margarucci, Pasqua Bartolini Tiraboschi and Paolina Gorietti are the three named in the case. He robbed them, and he dismembered at least one of the bodies. The Italian press called him the Railway Monster.
He was tried and executed by firing squad at the Chiara Vecchia range at Sarzana on October 13, 1933.
Two things about this case are worth stating. The first is that the range of three to seven has no accessible support at the upper end: three victims are named and the higher figure appears without a source. The second is the period. Capital punishment had been reintroduced in Italy in 1926 under the fascist regime, executions were carried out by firing squad, and criminal justice reporting was controlled; a 1933 execution in a case that had drawn public attention is not evidence that the wider count was ever established.
