Carmello DeJesus was born in 1934. Four killings committed between 1971 and 1973 in New York, New Jersey and Florida were attributed to him. Three of the dead are named in the case papers: Octavia Ford, forty-two, Sandra Postell, thirty, and Milagro Tena. They had been shot or stabbed, and rape was part of the case.
On September 8, 1973 two boys found his body in a field at Perinton, near Rochester in New York. He had shot himself, and he had left a written confession.
That note is the whole of the case against him. He was never arrested, never charged, never tried and never convicted, and no court ever tested any of it.
Nothing about the fourth killing appears in any source accessible here: no name, no place, no date. It is carried in the count because the confession accounted for four.
