Interview conducted at Montague County Sheriff's Office at approximately 3:00pm, September 19, 1983, by Detectives Jim Casper and Eric Liptak.
Questioning was in regards to the Catherine Powell Homicide occurring August 6, 1982.
Question: Do you recall any incidents in Smith County?
Answer : Where is Smith County?
Question: In the Tyler area.
Answer : I'm not sure where that is.
Question: I am referring to the Interstate 20 area just this side of Longview.
Answer : Is that near Shreveport?
Question: It's on the way to Shreveport, approximately 80 miles west of there.
Answer : Yeah, I killed some women off of the Interstate.
Question: I am referring to the time around the 1st part of August of 1982.
Answer : I can only remember two off of the Interstate in the first part of August. I killed Becky on the 23rd of August.
Question: What were you driving at the time?
Answer : I had a red '66 Ford Galaxie with a beige right front fender. I painted it blue and then green later. You boy's would have to go to California to get it though. I left it over there.
Question: Where were these at?
Answer: One was about five blocks off the Interstate. One was a kind of blonde haired woman and the other had black hair, I think.
Question: What about the blonde. Where was she living?
Answer : I'd say about 5 blocks off of the Interstate.
Question: What did the house look like?
Answer : It's hard to remember. It seems like it was kind of run down on the outside but she kept it real neat inside.
Question: How’d you get inside?
Answer : I don't remember. Usually I'd ask for water for my car or for something to eat.
Question: Were you having trouble with your car?
Answer : It kept overheating.
Question: You said you'd ask for something to eat. Did you eat there?
Answer : Yes.
Question: Do you remember what you ate?
Answer : Seems like she fixed me sandwiches and was cooking something.
Question: How did you kill her?
Answer : I strangled her and then stabbed her or shot her. I don't remember. I think I shot her.
Question: How did you normally kill the women?
Answer : I'd strangle them and then either stab or shoot them.
Question: What kind of gun did you use?
Answer : Usually a .22
Question: Was that what you shot the woman with?
Answer : I think I used a .38
Question: Did you ever use a shotgun?
Answer : I don’t ever remember using a shotgun.

Question: How old was this woman?
Answer : 35
Question: How do you know how old she was?
Answer Just guessing. Thirty-five to forty.
Question: Do you remember what she was wearing?
Answer: A reddish or pinkish stretch type sweater and I think blue jeans.
Question: Did you talk to the woman?
Answer: Yes.
Question: What did she talk about?
Answer: Well, she said that normally she didn't let men into her house. She said her husband was at work.
Question: Where were you at?
Answer : We were sitting at the kitchen table when she was talking.
Question: Did you rape her?
Answer : Yes.
Question: When you left what was she wearing?
Answer : They are either always nude or partially nude. The only time I leave them with clothes on is when someone is coming.
Question: What about the brunette?
Answer : Oh, I dumped her off on a lovers lane.
At this point Lucas began drifting and could only remember killing a black female out of Dallas during August of 1982. He did advise that he normally took items from the residences where he committed the murders. This was to sell. He could not ever recall taking firearms from a residence. When asked why he killed women, Lucas answered “sex”. He was asked if they were alive or dead when he raped them and he answered, "Dead. It's the only way I could get satisfied". Lucas was not able to provide anymore useful information even after being shown a photograph of the victim.
